Openings & Closings

Seasonal startup and shutdown guidance for a newly integrated pool-spa system.

Seasonal care for your new system

Winnipeg's swim season runs roughly from late May to early September, with the spa typically used year-round. The notes below are designed to help new owners understand the seasonal rhythm of the system we installed — they describe what to expect, not a promise of damage prevention.

Because the pool and spa share one equipment pad, the two seasonal transitions do not happen in isolation — closing the pool for winter still leaves the spa's side of the pad running, so the shutdown routine is written around both systems rather than one in isolation.

These notes are a general guide. The exact dates that work best for your yard depend on the specific equipment installed and the weather that particular year, which is why we do not publish a fixed calendar.

Most clients find it useful to keep a short note of the dates they opened and closed the previous year, since that becomes the starting point we work from when planning the next transition together.

What's involved each season

null

Spring start-up

Reconnecting the pool pump and filter, and confirming the spa's control panel and jets after the winter cover comes off, is intended to help both systems come back online cleanly.

Fall shutdown

Balancing the water, lowering the level and fitting the winter cover before freeze-up is intended to reduce the risk of a difficult spring start.

Both transitions are quicker when the equipment pad has been checked through the season — a pump that has been running cleanly all summer generally powers down and restarts with less fuss than one that has been struggling with a clogged filter for weeks.

We are also happy to answer a quick question by phone during either transition if something about the equipment pad looks or sounds different from what you expect — it is often a two-minute fix once we know what you are seeing.

Quick answers

null

Is seasonal service part of the install price?

No — the planning visit and install packages cover the installation itself. Seasonal guidance is advisory follow-up for clients we've installed systems for.

When should winterizing start?

Generally before the first hard freeze; exact timing depends on the season and is confirmed closer to the date.

Can the spa run through winter?

Most integrated spas are designed to run year-round; the pool side is the part that is shut down for winter.
